Legacy ChurchStaff Sandbox
Signing in

You sign in to the back office with your email address and a 6-digit code we email you. There's no password to remember or reset.

Access is by invitation only. An admin invites your email address in Settings, Staff access, and the first time you sign in with that address, your access starts. Anyone else can't get in, even if they ask for a code.

While the church is still trying things out, most of the back office is a practice sandbox on made-up data, and nobody signs in. Signing in matters on the pages that talk to the church's test database, such as Check-in stations and Staff access.

When to use this

  • You've been invited and want to sign in for the first time.
  • A page asks you to sign in before you can manage stations or staff access.
  • You've finished on a shared computer and want to sign out.

Sign in with an email code

  1. Open the back office and select Sign in at the bottom of the sidebar, or open any page that asks you to sign in.
  2. Type your Email: the address an admin invited.
  3. Select Email me a code.
  4. Open the email called something like "Your sign-in code" and find the 6-digit code.
  5. Type the code into Code and select Sign in.

If the email has a link instead of a code (the test database sends one like that for now), open the link on the same computer, in the same browser where you asked for it. It signs you in and takes you back to where you were. Opened on your phone or in another browser, the link says it has expired: start again from the sign-in page.

The bottom of the sidebar now shows the address you signed in with and whether you're an admin or staff.

Your email address

Use exactly the address the admin invited. If you have more than one address, ask the admin which one they used. The screen always says "if that email has been invited, a code is on its way", so it never gives away who has been invited. If no email arrives after a few minutes, check your spam folder, then ask an admin to check the invite.

The six-digit code

  • Each code works once, for about an hour.
  • Asking for a new code makes the old one stop working, so use the newest email.
  • For now the test database can send only a few emails an hour. If you're told too many codes were asked for, wait a little and try again.
  • Never share a code. Nobody from the church will ever ask you for it.

Sign in with Google

Once the church has Google Workspace, staff will sign in with their church Google account instead of a code. The sign-in page then shows Sign in with Google. Only church Workspace accounts that an admin has invited get in; a personal Google account doesn't, even with the same name.

If you can't get in

  • "You're signed in, but you don't have access yet": nobody has invited this address, or the invite was cancelled. Ask an admin to invite you, then sign in again.
  • "Use Google to sign in": the church has switched to Google Workspace sign-in. Sign out and choose Sign in with Google.
  • "That Google account isn't the church's": sign out, then choose your church Workspace account, not a personal one.
  • "Only admins can do this": you're signed in with staff access. Ask an admin if you need to manage stations or staff access.

Sign out

  1. At the bottom of the sidebar, select Sign out. You can also open Sign in and select Sign out there.
  2. Close the browser if the computer is shared.

Good to know

  • If an admin removes your access, it stops on your very next click, even if you're still signed in.
  • You stay signed in on this browser until you sign out or the sign-in expires.
  • Extra sign-in protection, such as an authenticator app, comes before anyone can see sensitive information like medical notes or giving detail. Nothing in the back office shows that information yet.

Top tips

  • Use the newest code: asking again cancels the one before.
  • Sign out when you finish on a shared or church computer.
  • If you change your email address, ask an admin for a new invite first.
