Legacy ChurchStaff Sandbox
Back-office page editor

The Editor tab is a practice version of the church's website editor. It shows a page's sections in order beside a live preview of the page, and lets you move, add and remove sections, and place forms and events you've built. Changes are saved in your browser only; nothing is published.

When to use this

  • To try out a new arrangement for a page before asking for it on the real site.
  • To place a form or an event you've built on the page where people will find it.
  • To see every kind of section the website can show.

Reorder, add and remove blocks

Each page is built from blocks (sections): a hero banner, a block of text, a list of events, a give form, and so on.

  1. Choose a page from the Pages list.
  2. The middle column lists its blocks, top to bottom. Use ↑ and ↓ to move a block, and × to remove it.
  3. To add a block, find it in the Widget library at the bottom and select Add. It's added to the end of the page; move it into place.
  4. The preview on the right updates as you go.

Reset puts the page back to its published order.

Place a form or event

Forms and events built in Forms and events appear under Your forms and events.

  1. Open the page where it belongs.
  2. Select Place beside the form or event.
  3. Move it into position in the block list.

Visitors' answers then land in the form's responses or the event's registrations, and in the Website inbox. To change the questions, edit the form itself; the page updates everywhere it's placed.

The widget library

The Widget library lists every block the website can show, grouped by category (layout, content, media, Sunday, sermons, events, people, giving and forms), each with a one-line description. Every feature the church adds comes with its own block here, so staff can put it on any page.

How this relates to the website editor

The real website is edited in the website editor at the site's own address (under /admin), with drafts, approvals and publishing. There you also change the words, buttons and pictures inside each block, by clicking on the page itself. The back-office Editor tab is for practising the arrangement and for placing back-office forms and events; it doesn't publish.

Good to know

  • Changes here are seen only in your browser's Website preview.
  • Removing a block here never deletes it from the real site.

Top tips

  • Put the most important action high on the page: a visitor on a phone sees the first block or two before deciding to scroll.
  • Use Reset freely; nothing you try here can affect the live site.

Troubleshooting

My form or event isn't in Your forms and events. An archived form isn't listed, and an event shows only once Show this event on the website preview is ticked. A draft form can be placed, but visitors see it only after you publish it.

I can't change the words in a block. The practice editor arranges blocks; editing the words happens in the website editor.
