The member app is a phone app for the congregation: this Sunday at a glance, giving, serving schedules, events and notifications. The church plans to offer it after the move off Elexio is finished, so it is switched off by default. You can turn it on in your own browser to see what members would see.
When to use this
- You want to see the app a volunteer would use to accept a Sunday slot.
- You're deciding whether the church is ready to offer the app.
- You want to send a test notification and watch it arrive.
Off by default
While the app is off, Member app in the menu shows Off, and opening it explains how to turn it on. Website blocks that promote the app stay hidden, and volunteer reminders go by email and text only.
Turning it on in the sandbox affects your browser only. For the real church, switching the app on is a reviewed change to the church's settings, not a switch any one person flips.
Turn it on to try it
- Open Features and settings from the menu.
- Under Optional features, switch Member app on.
- Select Open member app, or choose Member app in the menu.
To put it back, switch it off again, or select Reset to default.
Sign in as a member
The app opens on a welcome screen. In the real app, members sign in with a six-digit code sent to their email. In the sandbox you sign in as one of the pretend people instead:
- Pick a suggested person (usually someone on a serving team), or search by name.
- Look around as they would. Children under 13 can't be chosen: they have no accounts.
What members can do
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Home | This Sunday: the service time, kids check-in, the livestream and what's coming up. |
| Give | Give to a fund, or manage a recurring gift. Payment happens on Stripe's secure page. |
| Serve | See where they're scheduled, accept or decline, ask for a swap and add blockout dates. |
| Events | Upcoming events, with registration where it's offered. |
| Inbox | Notifications from the church. |
The profile (from the top of the app) lets members ask to update their details. Staff review those requests in People before anything changes.
Send a notification
With the app turned on, Features and settings shows a Send an app notification card. Choose all members or one team, write a short title and message, and send. It's captured, never pushed to a real phone, and appears in the app's Inbox.
Good to know
- The member app is on the deferred list in the church's plan. Nothing about it affects Sunday check-in, giving or messages while it's off.
- Volunteer answers in the app (accepts, declines, swaps and blockouts) land straight on the Volunteers schedule.
- The app works offline for the basics, and says so when it has no connection.
Top tips
- Sign in as a volunteer who serves this Sunday: the Serve tab is the best demonstration of what the app is for.
- Try it on your own phone in the browser; it's designed for a phone first.
- Turn the app off again when you've finished, so the rest of the sandbox shows what the church will use first.
Troubleshooting
Member app says it's turned off. That's the default. Turn it on under Features and settings › Optional features.
I can't find a child to sign in as. That's by design: children under 13 have no accounts. Messages for them go to their guardians.
